⚡ Short-term stress — 4 to 12 weeks

Composite score · 9 indicators · 3 of them weekly
Murders are down 18.7% — the steepest fall since 1960. Gun purchases are up 11.7%.
Jobless claims sit low, yet sentiment has dropped to 44.8, below the all-time record.
Violence is receding, fear is not, and the labour market looks fine while Americans have never
felt worse. Those gaps are the story. Claims land every Thursday; gas every week.
⚡ All indicators
Seven of these nine update themselves — jobless claims, continued claims, gas prices,
card delinquency and sentiment come straight from FRED, three of them weekly — murders
from the Real-Time Crime Index — which exists because the FBI publishes nine months late — and
gun purchases from FBI NICS, rebuilt into a clean monthly series by the Data Liberation Project.
Two don't yet: SNAP (USDA publishes spreadsheets, no API) and personal bankruptcies
(US Courts publishes tables, six weeks after quarter end). Their figures here are the latest
published — sourced, dated, and not guessed. A parser is needed to automate them; until it
exists and can prove its own reading, no robot writes them.
